My mother and I absolutely loved watching Jeopardy, hosted by Alex Trebek. When I lived at home, we would watch it together and try to guess all the answers. Years later when I was gone from the house, Mom and I would call each other after the shows and talk about the guests, and especially Alex himself. She would always tell me that she and Bailey (who much later became our cat) always watched the show together.
I think that many people will mourn Alex for the many years he was on Jeopardy. He was a gentleman, and was kind to everyone. After Mom died, it took me years to start watching it agaain; it made me too sad. Now that Alex has passed on, I imagine that many people (especially my mom) can’t wait to bend his ear now that he is in Heaven!
We never know when our time is up. But why worry about it? How about we spend more time being happy, being grateful, enjoying our families and friends? I have been a chronic worry-wart for years. But the older I get, the more I treasure each day. Let things fall as they may; it’s not like we can do much about it.
But we can be happy. We can enjoy each day as it comes, and think of all the good things and good people (and pets!) in our lives. Since we never know when our time is up, why not stop worrying about it and be glad for each day?
As for me this morning, I am raising my cup of coffee to the late great Alex Trebek. What a show, and what a guy!
