As comedian Bill Engvall says, stupid people really should wear a sign so that everyone would know that they are stupid; that way you wouldn’t expect anything from them. Now some stupid people are just born that way, bless their stupid little hearts. Other stupid people seem to just like being stupid.
So why am I bashing stupid people today? Here’s why: we are living in a pandemic, which means that we have to be careful not to be in crowds, we need to wear masks when out in public, and we need to wash our hands often, and be careful not to keep touching our faces and so on.
Yes, the pandemic is a ginormous pain in the hinder. Yes, the pandemic is forcing us to keep our distance from other people, Yes, we need to wear masks in public so that we don’t catch anything from anybody. Most of all, we need to keep in mind that the corona virus can KILL you.
Are we so spoiled in this great land of America that we won’t take sensible precautions to stay healthy? Are parties and lounging on the beach with a ton of maskless people around worth getting the virus and DYING FROM IT?
Look, I come from a time where there were no seatbelts in cars. I can’t tell you how many times my mother would whack me in the chest if another car shot out in front of her car. Now that we do have seatbelts in cars, they prevent lots of people from flying through the windshield.
So, that said, it’s just the same with masks; they are a preventative measure to keep us safe from the virus. Seriously, how damn hard is it to put on a mask, wash your hands and stop touching your face? If we are out and about where there are crowds, a mask can save your life. I have even seen people driving (by themselves; no one else in the car) wearing a mask. While that is super vigilant, the whole point is to wear the mask in public. But to each his own.
Seriously, folks, let’s not use up all of Bill Engvall’s stupid signs. I’ll agree that wearing a mask and washing up over and over again is a nuisance, BUT doing so can save your life. Oh, and by the way, you can buy some pretty cute masks. If we have to wear them, why not enjoy them? For example, I bought the Crankee Yankee a mask with a black cat on it saying “ewww—PEOPLE!” A good fashion statement AND a good way to stay healthy.
Masks on, folks—they can save your lives.
