Just So You Know…

The Crankee Yankee and I called our vet yesterday to order more cat food for our five cats. It never occured to us that there would be a problem; but this time, there was. It seems that a lot of folks who have cats; how can I say this without being snarky—are  hoarding cat food. There was none to be had from our vet; his supplies were gone as well. So we checked Amazon, and behold and lo, they had our regular cat food. We ordered a couple of flats of it; unfortunately it will be at least a week to get it. Who’da thunk it? This must be the feline version of toilet paper…

So we went to our friendly neighborhood pet center and bought some canned cat food that looked pretty good. Our five cats often get Fancy Feast along with their regular food, so it will be interesting to see how they feel about the new stuff. My guess is that they will do what cats always do; turn their noses up for anything unfamiliar. Eventually they will sneak back and start eating it; they don’t want us to think that they are going to dive right into something new.

Of course, cats being cats don’t always like to have something new. They like what they are used to; sounds a lot like some people I know! But while we wait for the food our cats are used to, we think that they will, albeit grudgingly, eat the new stuff. Once their regular food shows up all will be well.

Who would have believed that some folks would go above and beyond snatching up cat food along with toilet paper and paper towels? It’s a strange new world out there. It’s a good thing that cats can’t read; if they did, they would probably start their own protest about cat food hoarders. But knowing how lazy our cats are, this is probably not going to happen any time soon.

So, if you have cats or dogs or whatever pets you have, do check with your vet to see if he or she carries the food your pets like. Also, check on good old Amazon; who da thunk they had pet food? As always during times like this, be prepared not scared. As I’ve mentioned before in my blog, it’s always a good idea to have a “food storage” area set up for those “just in case” times. This includes pet food as well.

These are strange times, my friends…
