Mid-Winter Haikus

Cold Wind

Wind blows cold and snow

Through bare branches and brown leaves—

Better stay inside.

Footprints in the Snow

Visitors leave prints—

Tiny feet make lacey trails

In an inch of snow.

Alpenglow

Alpenglow shows up

As the sun dims its bright light

For the end of day.

Smart Cats

They view the new snow

As enemies to their feet—

And go back to sleep.

Hot Soup

Hot soup for supper

Warms both heart and soul tonight,

Warm end to the day.

Bare Branches

Trees dream of spring time

When their green leaves hide birds’ nests

In buds and flowers.
