I remember reading this somewhere; the reunion committee of a high school was planning their 30th class reunion and were stumped for ideas for a theme. Various venues were discussed and nothing felt right.
Then someone suggested that they send invitations to the reunion requesting that people wear what they wore on ‘the best day of their lives.’ The idea caught on quickly, and the committee was pleased that nearly every class member had RSVP’d.
On the night of the reunion, there were many brides and grooms in their wedding finery. Some wore their graduation robes, and others who had become doctors wore their lab coats. There were also yoga instructors, massage therapists, musicians, psychologists, lawyers, hairdressers, teachers, karate instructors, dancers, realtors, nurses, and so on.
One woman came dressed in casual black slacks, a purple, turquoise and red jacket, leather boots and lots of turquoise jewelry. When asked by the committee chairman why she wasn’t dressed in the clothes she wore on the best day of her life, she replied, “This IS the best day of my life so far!”
Think about it–our wedding day is over, our children have been born and are on their own, we have passed many milestones in our lives; succeeded in some and tanked in others. But today–this VERY day, we are here and present, we are in the NOW. By selecting a day that has already passed is sort of a slam on all the days following that, don’t you think?
So—what would YOU wear to represent the best day of YOUR life?
